Various events for experiencing and experimenting with geospatial technologies both within and outside the EXPO venue will be performed.
The following shows some examples of event experience.
Ocean floor topography of seismic center such as Nankai trough is now becoming a public concern. Japan Coast Guard has survey vessels which can carry out the task of ocean floor mapping.
If weather permits, you can board a survey vessel Hamashio (Overall length 21 meters) of The 3rd Regional Coast Guard Headquarters and see its bathymetric survey equipment.

Remote controlled small boat equipped with bathymetric survey instruments surveys its location by GPS. If XY coordinates of desired survey points or lines are entered into the navigation system of the boat, the boat automatically navigates itself to the pre-programmed point or line and carries out bathymetric survey. This technology is registered to NETIS of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

There is a great need for positioning system not only for outdoors use but also for indoor navigation. An experiment of indoor positioning will be conducted using IMES which sends out signals to GPS receivers just like GPS satellites but from indoor transmitters.
You can visit various countries only by walking through the site of G-Spatial EXPO 2012. If you can find the country you selected at the starting point, then you will win a prize. Animal finding game which was very popular among visitors will be held again.

There is a technology called Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR) which detects and measures movements of pedestrians. This technology is used for indoor navigation without using GPS signals. Your position will be displayed on a large screen or on a small display of your mobile phone overlaid on a 3D model of surrounding objects generated from their photos.

Mobile mapping system measures three dimensional positions by using a sensor onboard a survey vehicle and captures images and collects three dimensional data of surrounding objects by cameras and laser scanners. You can ride on a survey vehicle and experience mobile survey and mapping.

Unmanned Airborne Vehicle is receiving high expectations as a device for survey and reconnaissance. Demonstration flight of an electric powered radio controlled air plane will be conducted. Control of the air plane is very easy, and stable auto piloted flight is possible. You can also see real time images captured by a flying airplane if weather permits.

SpaceWalk is satellite image viewer software being used in exhibits and in the production of computer graphics at TV stations. You can use this software by a game controller and find a designated place in Japan on satellite image.

A survey vehicle will be guided to pre-determined positions by using RTK survey technology and then a radiation detector onboard will measure the level of radiation, coordinate of the measurement point and time of the measurement. Collected radiation data will be displayed as a radiation map.

Pace off a distance and explore the origin of survey. First, check the length of your step. Then, walk a certain distance and count the number of your steps. Calculate the distance by multiplying the length of your step by the number of your steps. "Certificate of Pace Off Expert" will be presented to a person whose distance measurement is closest to actual the distance.
